The Power of Song: A Voice in Social Justice

As The Power of Song Inc. has grown, the organization and its leadership increasingly have become a sought-after entity for conference participation and at educational institutions throughout the world. CEO and artistic director September Penn, a specialist in the music of the Civil Rights Movement, has led these efforts, speaking at justice and arts conferences as well as educational institutions and churches in Florida, Tennessee, California, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado among others nationally and Kenya, Africa, and Tokyo, Japan abroad.

The Power of Song Inc’s conference and educational participation has included the Social Justice Conference in Fuller Theological Seminary, the Cultivate Conference in San Diego, speaking events at Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo, Japan, Southwest Baptist University in Missouri, the Conference on World Affairs at the University of Colorado, Boulder, First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, among others.

The first major speaking event sponsored by The Power of Song Inc. featured Stanford University history professor Dr. Clayborne Carson, one of the nation’s leading civil rights experts and director of Martin Luther King Research and Education Institute.
